About the Surf Club:

Who we are:
Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club Inc. is part of Australia ’s
volunteer surf lifesaving service. The club is affiliated with Surf
Lifesaving Australia at the national level and with Surf Life Saving
New South Wales at the State level.
Where we are:
Avalon Beach is located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, about 45 minutes drive from the Central Business District of Sydney.
What we do:
Our primary role is to ensure the safety of beachgoers on weekends and
public holidays, by placing red and yellow flags at the safest place to
swim on our beach and providing qualified surf lifesavers to patrol the
beach. We aim to prevent the need for rescuing swimmers in difficulty,
but even with preventative measures in place, we rescue around 100
people each summer.
We also aim to enjoy ourselves while undertaking a responsible
community service, by having Sunday morning surf races, numerous BBQ’s
and social functions throughout the year. We are also strong
competitors at nippers, open and masters competitions at Branch, State
and National Surf Lifesaving Championships.

What we have done:
Avalon Beach SLSC is a strong, growing club. Success in competition, a track record
of innovation, and a healthy spirit among its members provide a solid foundation for the clubs future development.
Although it is not one of the major, older established clubs, Avalon
Beach SLSC has made a number of significant contributions to surf
lifesaving. It is the home of the IRB (Surf Life Saving Australia's main item of rescue equipment),
several strong competitors, and SLSA-approved leg ropes on rescue
boards. Avalon Beach was also the first place Malibu board riding was
seen in Australia, it's members introduced surf board riding to Britain
and started the Avalon stomp.
The objectives of the club are:
- The study and practice of methods of Surf Life Saving as taught by Surf Life Saving Australia.
- To minimize the loss of life from drowning by providing efficient life saving apparatus.
- To
promote demonstrations and arrange classes of instruction, and to
further the best interests of surf bathing and Surf Life Saving.
- To appoint patrols to render all possible aid to those in distress.
- To
organise and conduct carnivals and social functions for the benefit and
assistance of the Club in the attainment of the above objectives.
- To carry on any other activity whatsoever calculated directly or indirectly to enhance or further the interests of the club.
